About Us
The Ty Gwyn has been owned by the Ratcliffe family for over four decades, with Martin and wife Nicola running the multi award-winning inn alongside their sons, Aaron and Dylan, on a daily basis. The Ty Gwyn really is a labour of love for the family with major refurbishment having taken place over recent years.

History of The Ty Gwyn Coaching Inn
The origins of the Ty Gwyn Hotel, in Betws-y-Coed, are believed to date as far back to the 16th Century when it was recorded as being a substantial open hall house. Situated alongside the A5 thoroughfare, which dates back to Roman times, it naturally became a prime stopover location for travellers and would naturally evolve into a traditional coaching inn for horse-drawn carriages.
Before becoming the Ty Gwyn Hotel, the establishment operated as “Ye Olde Waterloo Hotel” and later the “Blue Bird Cafe”.

As a family we recognise the importance of the long history of the Ty Gwyn Inn and as such relish the opportunity to retain as many of the original features as possible.
We take immense pride in this building and endeavour to sustain its rich history. We hope that our guests enjoy and relish all that it holds as much as we do.
